Adams welcomes Taoiseach’s support for all-Ireland response to Brexit

14 July, 2016 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD, following a meeting with the Taoiseach and other party leaders today during which he pressed the Taoiseach on the need for an all-Ireland response to the Brexit referendum, has welcomed his support for a mechanism for an all island dialogue.

Teachta Adams said:

“I want to welcome the Taoiseach’s commitment to establishing an all-Ireland dialogue in the aftermath of the Brexit referendum which has been put forward by Sinn Féin and others since the referendum result became clear.

“It is vital that voices from the civic, business, agricultural and other sectors, as well as political representatives from across the entire island have a space in which to deliberate and discuss the outworkings of Brexit and the major impact it will have on all aspects of Irish society, north and south.

“The Taoiseach and all other party leaders present today are in favour of such a dialogue and a formal mechanism for doing so, and I look forward to more details on the proposal being brought forward in the coming days.”
