Ní Riada attends high level fisheries meetings in Norway

Liadh Ní Riada MEP will this week visit Norway as part of a delegation of the Fisheries Committee in the European Parliament.

Speaking ahead of the delegation, Ms Ní Riada said,

“We have a series of important and high level meetings see up over the course of the visit in order to share best practise and to ensure we are maximising the potential of the fishing industry and also to discuss the Agreement on fisheries between the European Economic Community and Norway.

"Norway is the world’s leading producer of Atlantic salmon and the second largest seafood exporter in the world and has developed to become an industry of major importance internationally, this is due to the fact that Norwegian authorities have been proactive and creative into achieving the potential of its sector, whilst in Ireland it’s the opposite as our potential has been consistently squandered.

“A number of factors are causing issues for the fishing industry in Ireland at the minute and therefore it is important that meetings like these are carried out and relationships are maintained.” ENDS
