Irish Water must address concerns of Ballyclare Road/ Ferbane residents – Nolan
Sinn Féin TD for the Offaly/ North Tipperary constituency, Teachta Carol Nolan has called on Irish Water to address the concerns of residents of Ballyclare Road and Ferbane in respect of ongoing problems with the sewerage system. Teachta Nolan’s comments coincide with a meeting on the issue this afternoon.
Teachta Nolan said:
“The residents of Ballyclare Road and Ferbane have had to put up with ongoing problems with the sewerage system for over a year.
“Some of the residents have had to move out of their houses due to the strong odour arising from nearby manholes.
“I have raised this issue with Irish Water on numerous occasions and I am glad that they will meet with Oireachtas members on this issue.
“I am aware that Irish Water has tried the use of chemicals to resolve the issue and this has not been successful.
“I am also aware that Irish Water is proposing the installation of a vented manhole in a further attempt to address this issue.
“I am calling on Irish Water, instead of wasting more time and tax payer’s money with a trial and error approach, to immediately give a commitment to implement a long term solution that will address the needs of residents.
“This could be achieved by either removing the sewage by road to a treatment plant or the extension of a pipeline to Ferbane.
“The residents have put up with this issue for too long and it is time to take action.”ENDS
