Munster urges Minister to show compassion for families with sick children
Sinn Féin TD for Louth and East Meath, Imelda Munster, has urged the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, and his government colleagues to speed up the process of legislating for children with disabilities and sick children to access medical cards based on their medical need.
Speaking in the Dáil on Tuesday evening, Deputy Munster said:
“Recipients of Domiciliary Care Allowance must automatically qualify for a medical card. Minister Harris cannot kick the issue down the road, as this Government have done with so many other issues.
“Does the Minister expect families with sick children to wait even longer than they already have, and to continue having to endure undergoing a rigorous application process and a household audit to prove their sick child is deserving of a medical card?
“There is no reason to allow this to be postponed for upwards of another year.
“I urge the Minister to do the right thing for these children and their families, and to do it this year.”
