Poppintree co-op leading the way on affordable housing – Reilly
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Noeleen Reilly has welcomed the news that all of the affordable housing units in Poppintree have now been allocated to families.
Speaking from Poppintree today, Cllr Reilly said:
“I have fully supported O’Cualann cohousing alliance from the start as I was aware of the huge need for affordable housing in the area.
“It is great to hear that all 49 Units have now been allocated and building is expected to start early next week.
“This is a model that needs to be replicated elsewhere across Dublin to provide working families with homes.
“Unlike the Government who think €240,000 is affordable, O’Cualann has been able to provide a 2 bedroom house for €144,000.
“As a resident of Poppintree, I know these houses are badly needed and there is already a waiting list if any of these homes become available for whatever reason.
“There is ample Dublin City Council land particularly in Ballymun and Finglas which can be used for Social and Affordable units.
“If O’Cualann can provide homes at this price then there is no reason why Dublin City Council shouldn’t aim for the same.”
