Anti-Social Policies by Government a Worrying Development – Cullinane
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Workers’ Rights David Cullinane TD has criticised the proposals to exclude low-paid and part-time workers from the contributory state pension, calling them punitive, demeaning, and socially regressive.
Deputy Cullinane said:
“These proposals from officials within the Department of Social Protection show that the type of right-wing, anti-social ideas we’ve come to expect from our State institutions and organisations are alive and well in the new politics of Fine Gael and their independent partners.
“This is not about the state pension; rather it is an attempt to further cut employee PRSI which is already the lowest in the Eurozone, and which will bring no actual benefit to employees or the State.
“A progressive society is one with a strong social wage; in health, education, housing and pensions.
“This move, if adopted by the government, goes against the vision of a caring and nurturing society which lies at the heart of Sinn Féin policy.
“Any attempt to implement this policy will be strongly resisted by Sinn Féin.”
