Bomb alert follows night of anti-social activity – JJ Magee

9 August, 2016 - by JJ Magee

Sinn Féin Councillor for North Belfast JJ Magee has slammed the further disruption caused to the people of the New Lodge following the discovery of a suspect device on North Queen Street this morning.

This follows a night of disturbances by some anti-social elements associated with a bonfire in the area.

Speaking today Councillor Magee said:

“The discovery of this device has caused further disruption to the New Lodge community.

“Families have been forced to leave their homes and a major arterial route has closed making it difficult for people to get on with their day to day business.

“This follows a night of disruption to this community associated with an unwanted bonfire built in the area by anti-social elements and others.

“This included street fighting among rival gangs, local property was stolen and burnt and in the aftermath hammers and knives were recovered.

“This community deserves much better than this and the people responsible for this device offer the community nothing only further misery and hardship.”
