Anderson to meet Fermanagh groups on Brexit

10 August, 2016 - by Martina Anderson MEP

Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson will visit senior economist Peter Quinn and a number of local groups in Lisnaskea tomorrow to discuss the impact of a proposed Brexit on the wider Fermanagh area.

Speaking today Ms Anderson said:

“Fermanagh is an area which has witnessed historic underinvestment. So the adverse affect on Fermanagh of Brexit will be a further blow to the area.

“I will be meeting with local groups including the South West Regional College and the Agricultural Producers Association both of whom rely heavily on funding from Europe in terms of sustainability of services and livelihoods.

“I will also be meeting with senior economist Peter Quinn from Price Waterhouse Cooper, to get a direct assessment of the impact of Brexit on the northern economy so far.

“These meetings are essential given the fact that Fermanagh voted to Remain yet will be disproportionately affected.

“By getting first-hand testimonies from leading organisations in the county I can relay this back to the heart of Europe.

“I will continue to campaign for the British government to respect the mandate of the people of the North to remain in Europe.”
