Joint approach could enhance education provision across sector – Seeley

12 August, 2016 - by Catherine Seeley

Following a meeting in Antrim with the Education Authority Sinn Fein MLA Catherine Seeley has said a more integrated approach comprising of officials from the Education Authority, Health Trusts and key health agencies could enhance education provision across the sector.

Speaking today Ms Seeley said:

"Any work that can improve areas of mutual concern between departments to improve results and outcomes should be examined.

“I have therefore called on the Education Authority to assess where representatives from the Education Authority and key individuals in our health trusts and agencies could find a mutual working arrangement to help improve areas where education and health overlap.

“A joined-up approach will help address the processes in the statementing, enhance the delivery of health-based education programmes and ensure staff have increased knowledge of how particular illnesses impact on the day-to-day abilities of a child.

“More importantly a joined-up approach will help address key issues contributing to underachievement including poor attendance, mental wellbeing and lack of adequate support.”
