Deputy Mayor to make presentation to St. Patrick's Day Carnival Committee
Deputy Mayor of Belfast, Cllr Joe O'Donnell is to make a presentation to the St. Patrick's Day Carnival Committee this Wednesday (16 March).
Cllr O'Donnell will host a reception in the Deputy Mayors Parlour at 11 am where he will present the Committee with a bowl of shamrock to recognise their sterling work in organizing the Belfast St. Patrick's Carnival over the last number of years.
Speaking before the event Cllr O'Donnell said;
"The idea behind the reception is for me on behalf of the city of Belfast to congratulate the St. Patrick's Committee on the efforts they have made to make the Carnival as inclusive as possible for the people of this city.
"Obviously there are still begrudgers out there who do not want to see any public expression of Irishness in Belfast but the Carnival Committee have actually went further than what was asked of them this year in an attempt to find accommodation
"I intend the presentation to be just a small gesture towards the recognition the organizers deserve for their efforts on behalf of all the people of Belfast
"I hope that as many people as possible turn out on Thursday to enjoy the craic and celebrate our national day in a fun and inclusive manner."
