Pat Hickey should be called before Oireachtas Committee - Imelda Munster TD

15 August, 2016 - by Imelda Munster TD

Sinn Féin spokesperson on sports Imelda Munster TD has called on the Chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport to write to the President of the Olympic Council of Ireland Pat Hickey to invite him to appear before the committee to answer questions in relation to the Olympics tickets controversy.

Teachta Munster said we need to have maximum accountability on this issue in order to protect Ireland’s international reputation which she said is being damaged by this story.

She said;

“As this story continues to dominate the public discourse Ireland’s international reputation is continuing to be damaged.

“It is therefore vitally important that we have maximum accountability on this.  The attitude of Pat Hickey so far is simply not good enough.

“Minister Ross should push ahead with an independent inquiry.  However, I have urged the Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin to write to Mr Griffin to invite him in to answer questions in relation to this controversy.

“After today’s reports in relation to Mr Hickey’s meeting with Minister Ross I believe it is now more urgent that he takes this course of action.”
