McCann and Gavan meet Palestinian prisoner and human rights groups
Sinn Féin's Fra McCann MLA and Senator Paul Gavan have met with Palestinian prisoner and human rights groups in Ramallah as part of their visit to Palestine.
The engagements were hosted by the Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights organisation and it's Director Saha Francis and the Sinn Féin representatives also met with Defence For Children and the Palestine Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement.
Senator Gavan said;
"I was shocked to hear that there are currently 7,500 Palestinian prisoners languishing in Israeli jails, 350 of whom were children.
"We also heard about the appalling conditions in which women prisoners are kept with six women crammed into a 3X3 meter cell."
Fra McCann also called for the immediate release of hunger striker Bilal Kayed after meeting with his family to discuss his condition.
"We are extremely concerned about the reports concerning his health We also took the time to visit the public headquarters of Bilal's Campaign in his home town of Nablus.
"We had an emotional meeting with the mother and family of the Palestinian Hunger Striker. We pledged the full support of our party for the release of her son."
