Rio Arrest - OCI Inquiry certainly not credible now - Imelda Munster TD

17 August, 2016 - by Imelda Munster TD

Commenting on the news of the arrest of the president of the Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) Pat Hickey, Sinn Féin's Spokesperson for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Imelda Munster TD has said we need to see concrete action from Minister Shane Ross on this issue.

Speaking this afternoon Teachta Munster said;

“Pat Hickey humiliated Minister Ross in Rio this week and since then the Minister has had very little to say while Ireland’s international reputation has been continually damaged.

“We need to see more concrete action from Minister Ross.

“It is now incomprehensible that the Olympic Committee of Ireland could with any credibility continue with its own internal inquiry when its most senior figure has been arrested in connection to the matter at hand.

“Minister Ross must recover from his ‘shell shock’ as quickly as he can and establish a separate inquiry.

"It is vital that we get to the bottom of how this ticketing controversy was allowed to happen and that we introduce measures to ensure that this never happens again.”
