As we slept in our beds last night, Palestinian children were being bombed by Israel – Gavan

22 August, 2016 - by Paul Gavan

Sinn Féin Senator Paul Gavan has declared his horror at last night’s scenes in which the Israeli armed forces struck Gaza 50 times in 24 hours.

Senator Gavan said:

“It is with great regret that we once again awake to the news of yet another attack on Gaza. Yesterday evening, the Israeli army fired 50 strikes on Gaza, causing chaos and injury to the Palestinian community.

“In the aftermath of the attack, several civilians are being treated for shrapnel injuries and 30 different sites were demolished by the air strikes in Gaza

“This assault is nothing new; it’s simply a continuation of Israel’s policy to try and break the will of the Palestinian people.

“Last week, myself and Sinn Fein MLA Fra McCann spent three days meeting dozens of civilians who are victims of the ongoing occupation of Palestine. We heard the personal testimony of state killings, torture, imprisonment of children, mass scale internment without trial, house demolitions and systematic apartheid. These latest bombings are further evidence of outrageous Israeli aggression.

“The cruelty being inflicted upon the Palestinian people needs to stop and should not be tolerated by the International community.

“Today, we stand in solidarity with Gaza, and our thoughts are with all the victims of the ongoing occupation Palestine.”
