EU council position on Budget 2017; a disappointing failure
Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada has said the EU council position on Budget 2017 is another disappointing failure and is punishing the most vulnerable in our communities.
“The budgetary cuts proposed by the Council and Commission are yet again another indication of where the priority lies. It is indicative of the lack of vision regarding our youth and it is again our most vulnerable in societies paying the price.
“Austerity has been proven not to work and now is the time for real leadership and change.
“The fallout from Brexit is contributing towards a Europe that is becoming increasingly disenfranchised and fragile both economically and politically.
“It is imperative that we strategically invest and support the European Social fund and create employment if we are to reap long term benefits and reduce the burden on member states. The latest council position on Budget 2017 is another disappointing failure at addressing the real issues.” ENDS
