Cullinane calls for Herity Report on Waterford Cardiology Unit to be published
David Cullinane, Sinn Fein TD for Waterford, said today that the report into cardiology services at University Hospital Waterford needs to be published immediately. He also called for an urgent meeting of local and regional Oireachtas members and the minister for health to discuss the report's results.
Speaking today, Deputy Cullinane said:
"It is deeply disappointing that leaks from the Herity Report do not recommend enhanced cardiology services at University Hospital Waterford (UHW).
“The people of Waterford were assured by hospital consultants that UHW meets the criteria for enhanced cardiology services and has sufficient patient through-put to justify a second cath-lab at the hospital.
“Only last November I received a commitment from former health minister Leo Varadkar that this government was committed to enhancing cardiology services at Waterford.
“Since the general election people's expectations were raised not only by commitments given but by bold statements from junior minister John Halligan that this was a done deal.
“Today I have written to the minister for Health Simon Harris requesting that he meet with all local and regional Oireachtas members to discuss the report's findings.
“I have also written to the general manager of UHW requesting a similar meeting.
“It is imperative that local and regional Oireachtas members work together to enhance all services at UHW.
“In the coming weeks I will publish a comprehensive report setting out real capacity issues across multiple services at UHW.
“The people of Waterford need delivery of services and not false promises and raised expectations.”
