Doherty raises future of Omagh electoral office with NIO minister

7 September, 2016 - by Pat Doherty

Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty has encouraged people to make their views known during a consultation on the future of the Omagh electoral office.

The West Tyrone MP said;

"I met today with NIO Minister Kris Hopkins to discuss Sinn Féin's concerns about the plans to close the electoral office in Omagh.

"It was a useful meeting and he listened to our concerns about the impact the closure of the electoral office would have on access to local democracy.

"Electoral offices play a key role in local democracy, particularly in rural areas where access to broadband can be limited and access to local electoral offices is vital.

"The proposals to close the office in Omagh and other offices across the North are currently out for public consultation.

“That consultation will run until January and I would encourage as many people as possible to make their views known and call for the offices to be retained."
