Brokenshire should listen to US calls to respect Remain vote - O'Dowd
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said James Brokenshire needs to listen to those voices from America who say that the vote in the North to remain in the EU must be respected.
Speaking from Philadelphia, the Sinn Féin national spokesperson on Brexit said;
"I am currently in the United States meeting politicians, academics and leading figures from Irish America to discuss the impact of the recent EU referendum.
"Following discussions on Capitol Hill yesterday with leading political figures I travelled to Philadelphia today to meet with the Philadelphia Irish Society and a leading academic from Penn State University.
"The British government's secretary of state for the North James Brokenshire is also currently in the US and no doubt he will be hearing the same message that I am hearing – that the remain vote of the people of the North must be respected.
"He and his government need to listen to that loud and clear voice from those in America who have been engaged in the Irish peace process from the beginning and realise that remain must mean remain."
