Domestic Rates - huge concern over lack of detail
Sinn Féin Finance Spokesperson, Mid Ulster MLA Francie Molloy has said that there are huge concerns that direct rule Finance Minster Ian Pearson is imposing his plans for changes to the domestic rates system without providing the detailed required to analyse the impact of the proposals.
Mr Molloy said:
"While Ian Pearson has reiterated his determination to go ahead with the new rating system in 2007, he is far less definite about dealing with the important issues that were raised during the consultation period.
"He makes no definite commitment in terms of pensioners unable to pay the new rates; he gives no details of the rate relief scheme to be introduced; he does not tell us what transitional arrangements will be introduced; and he fails to deal with the thorny issue of maximum and minimum payments.
"It is not good enough for him to expect people to accept these new arrangements without telling us what those arrangements will be." ENDS
