Ó Broin calls on all those opposed to water charges to march this Saturday
Speaking today alongside Right2Water TDS in advance of the next Right2Water demonstration, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Water, Eoin Ó Broin, has called for all those opposed to the charges to join them this Saturday at 2pm.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The majority of TDs returned to the Dáil were elected on a platform of the abolition of water charges. The Right2Water TD’s have consistently called on the government and Fianna Fáil to heed the democratic will of the people and abolish this tax.
“Despite their manifesto commitment to scrap water charges, Fianna Fáil are colluding with Fine Gael to avoid dealing directly with the matter. People did not vote for an expert commission or the suspension of charges. People voted for the abolition of this tax.
"It is time for politicians to put their money where their mouth is. Sinn Féin will be tabling a private members motion calling for the scrapping of water charges in October. We expect all TDs who want to see an end to the charge to support our motion.
“I am urging all those opposed to water charges to come out on Saturday and send a very clear signal to Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil that water charges must be scrapped.”
