Hinkley Point potential danger to people living in Ireland - Ruane

15 September, 2016 - by Caitríona Ruane

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has described news that the Nuclear Plant in Hinkley Point, Somerset has been given the go ahead as a potential danger to people living in Ireland.

Ms. Ruane said:

“News that the British government has given the go ahead for a new £18 billion nuclear power station at Hinkley Point, Somerset is unwelcome and poses a potential danger to people living in Ireland.

“Nuclear plants are not wanted near our coastline as they inevitably pose a real and potentially disastrous threat to the health and wellbeing of our citizens, particularly those living in or near the East Coast.

"Methods of producing energy that can cause serious risk to the health and environment of millions of citizens, including nuclear generators and fracking should not be supported.”
