Minister Noonan must decide - does he protect NAMA or the people - Mary Lou McDonald TD
Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD has said that any refusal by Michael Noonan to appear before the Public Accounts Committee, to answer questions regarding NAMA's project Eagle, would make his position as Minister for Finance untenable.
She added that the Minister must decide whether he protects NAMA or the people.
Deputy McDonald said;
“We know that the bidding process for Project Eagle was corrupted through the operation of fixer fees.
"We also know that Minister Noonan failed to intervene and call a halt to the sales process at that time.
“Mr Noonan, as Minister for Finance, failed to protect the interests of the citizens of this state.
"It now seems that he will try to avoid being held accountable for these failures by refusing to come before the Public Accounts Committee.
"Such a refusal by Minister Noonan would make his position untenable.
"Minister Noonan must appear before the PAC at the earliest opportunity to answer questions on this matter.
"He must decide - does he protect NAMA or the people?"
