McAleer backs European Day Without A Road Death
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has backed a Europe-wide road safety initiative aimed at cutting the numbers of road deaths.
The Sinn Féin Infrastructure spokesperson said;
"On September 21, Project Edward – European Day Without A Road Death – will be staged across Europe to raise awareness of road safety issues.
"One fatality on our road is one too many. We should be aiming to make every day free from road deaths but initiatives like this are important as they draw attention to the issue and for all road users to think more about road safety.
"Sadly, we have seen a number of road deaths recently, including in my own area, and we recognise the pain and suffering road deaths cause.
"Sinn Féin has invested in infrastructure projects which have and will improve road safety and will continue to campaign to reduce deaths on our roads."
