Dáil should vote on CETA before Minister sells Ireland out - Carthy
Sinn Féin MEP matt Carthy has said that the Dåil should be allowed to vote on the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
Addressing an event at the Ploughing Championships this morning, Matt Carthy said:
“CTEA, like TTIP, is bad deal which would have serious negative implications for Irish farmers, workers and consumers.
“Through its provision for an Investment Court, it will undermine Irish democracy and our judicial system.
“The Irish Government’s position in support of this deal is ludicrous in itself, but their intention to ratify it as the Euro council before any Dáil vote is fundamentally undemocratic.
“While Fine Gael are comment to support bad EU trade deals regardless of the consequences, Sinn Féin will continue to stand up for Ireland’s interests.
“The Irish people have the right to see where the rest of their TDs stand on this issue.”
