Farmers suffering consequences of price volatility - Martin Kenny TD
Sinn Féin Agriculture Spokesperson Martin Kenny TD has said the problem of farmers are suffering badly as a result of price volatility.
Speaking today at a Sinn Féin meeting at the National Ploughing Championships in Co. Offaly today, Martin Kenny said:
"There is no doubt that our engagement with farmers here at the Ploughing confirms our belief that the primary food producer is the one that is suffering from the consequences of price volatility.
"There is massive profit in food production and it is the farmer who puts in the effort but does not reap the rewards.
"There is need for regulation beyond the farm gate to prevent monopoly and its consequences making farming for a living more difficult.
"We need to make farming profitable again. When the farmer is prospering, the rural economy thrives and that is good for everyone."
