O'Dowd urges support for Brexit day of action

23 September, 2016 - by John O'Dowd

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has encouraged people to support a day of action against Brexit organised by the campaign group, Border Communities Against Brexit.

Mr O'Dowd said;

"In the recent EU referendum the majority of people in the north - unionist, nationalists and republicans - voted to remain in the EU.

"It is clear there is widespread concern right across society about the British government's plans to drag us out of the EU against our wishes.

"And there is no doubt that border communities would be among the worst hit by being forced out of the EU and any strengthening to the border.

"The campaign group, Border Communities Against Brexit, is made up of trade unionists, the business community, community groups, charities, disability campaigners and others.

"They will be holding a day of action against Brexit at six locations right across the border from Derry to Dundalk on Saturday October 8 at 3pm.

"It is important as many people as possible take part to send a clear message that the vote of the people of the North to remain in the EU should be respected."
