Shane Ross needs to face up to his responsibilities in Dublin Bus dispute - Cullinane

24 September, 2016

Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Workers’ Rights David Cullinane TD has criticised the Minister for Transport for his "weak and ineffectual" stance on the Dublin Bus pay dispute and said Shane Ross needs to start taking his responsibilities seriously.

David Cullinane said:

“The response of Transport Minister Shane Ross to the Dublin Bus dispute is as tired and jaded as the clichés he used to prop up his Sunday newspaper columns.

"The strike at Dublin bus is not about cheque books. it is about productivity, and on that issue the workers have delivered.

"It has been eight years since they had a pay rise. They work longer hours and more shifts and have sacrificed a lot in order to get Dublin bus back in profit.

"It is now time for management to meet the unions without precondition and to come to a negotiated settlement that will allow the workers to receive the pay and pension justice they rightfully deserve.

"For his part, Minister Ross needs to face up to his responsibilities as the minister with responsibility for both the strategic direction of public transport and the amount of State funding that is provided to deliver a public service that is an essential part of the infrastructural needs of our capital city.”
