All Ireland approach needed to enhance tourism - McMullan
Sinn Féín MLA Oliver McMullan has said that an all Ireland approach would enhance tourism.
Speaking on World Tourism Day Mr McMullan said:
“The island of Ireland and indeed the North are among the world’s most popular tourism destinations.
“The North has several spots of immense beauty including ten Blue Flag Beaches including Crawfordsburn, Benone and Cranfield Bay, as well as The Giant’s Causeway, the Dark Hedges and the Glens of Antrim.
“One of the most impressive Armada shipwrecks, La Girona lies off the Antrim coast. La Girona is famed for rekindled interest in the Spanish Armada but it does not feature on the Wild Atlantic Way.
“At present the Wild Atlantic Way does not include Antrim or Derry and Ireland’s Ancient East does not include the burial place of St. Patrick in Co Down.
“Thanks to global franchises like Star Wars and Game of Thrones places like Skellig Michael, the Inishowen Peninsula and Downhill Strand are generating great interest from all over the world.
“We need to enhance our tourist opportunities by ensuring that there is joint marketing of tourist assets north and south.”
