Government must provide funding for Cork to Limerick motorway project - Maurice Quinlivan TD
Sinn Féin TD for Limerick city and party’s spokesperson for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Maurice Quinlivan has said the government must make funds available for the construction of a motorway between Cork and Limerick. Speaking following calls by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) for the government to allocate funding to such a project, Deputy Quinlivan said:
“This is a critical infrastructural project and there is a duty on the government fund it.
“A motorway between Limerick and Cork has the potential to radically alter the region making it more attractive to foreign direct investment and kick start economic development.
“This is a win-win situation for the government as the spin-off from regional prosperity is a reversal of rural decline, urban regeneration and a more equitable spread of prosperity.
“I agree with the CIF that the building of a motorway between Limerick and Cork is the most important infrastructure project in the terms of the Atlantic Economic Corridor.
“This project has the potential to address the issue of uneven development whereby the greater Dublin region has developed at the expense of the rest of the country.
“I am calling on the Minister to revisit plans for the construction of the M20 and to ensure building of this critical project begins without further delay”.
