Outcome of Brexit legal challenge hugely important - O'Dowd
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said the outcome of the ongoing legal challenge against Brexit is hugely important.
Speaking outside the High Court , Mr O'Dowd said;
"This court case has taken on more significance as a result of the remarks on Brexit made by successive ministers at the Tory party conference.
"One of the more worrying proposals was for a register of non British workers. How would that impact the thousands of people who cross the border for work each day.
"If we reach a stage where employers in Derry or Newry have to put together a register of workers from Donegal or Louth then it will have gone beyond the Pale. Will those of us on this side of the border who are Irish have to be registered?
"Warm words from James Brokenshire are meaningless against such ridiculous suggestions.
“We are facing into a very serious economic and political situation which has made the outcome of this court case all the more important.
"The people of the North voted to remain in the EU and that must be respected."
