Doolan- Multi billion development must provide solutions not just profit
Sinn Féin's Dublin South East Representative, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has called, "for a major consultation process to ensure the proposed multi-billion euro development of the Poolbeg area on Dublin's south side does not simply become a builder's paradise and a local nightmare.''
Speaking ahead tonight's public meeting in Ringsend, Cllr. Doolan said, ''this important meeting is organised to allow local people, businesses and residents groups an opportunity to have their say in how the development should proceed. We must ensure that the needs of communities in Ringsend, Irishtown and Sandymount are to the fore in any plans for the Poolbeg area.
Sinn Féin are committed to the development and have made a full submission to the City Council outlining our priorities for the area. These include 25% social & affordable housing, proper infrastructure, no incineration, extended consultation with community and no high rise. We are not in the business of simply handing land over to developers to allow ever growing profits to be made while people languish on housing lists, our environment is destroyed and public transport relegated to a second rate service.
I am committed to ensuring that this development on Dublin‚s south bank allows us to provide homes, jobs and a secure future in a part of the city that has for too long been a dumping ground for dirty industry."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan urged, ''political parties, developers and planners to work in partnership with the community to ensure that this unique opportunity is not squandered but rather used to meet the needs of the greater Dublin area.''ENDS
