Bank of Ireland closure of IPSC unacceptable - Sheehan
Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan has stated that Bank of Ireland must explain clearly why they closed bank accounts of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Speaking following a unilateral decision by the bank to close both accounts in Dublin and Belfast Mr Sheehan said:
“The unilateral decision by the Bank of Ireland to close the bank accounts of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign is entirely unacceptable.
“The IPSC are a not for profit, non-party political NGO to advocate for Palestinian rights who have held accounts with the Bank of Ireland for 15 years.
“The Bank of Ireland have questions to answer about closing the accounts now with no rhyme or reason given other than these were ‘risk’ accounts.
“If any other NGO supporting human rights anywhere else in the world was treated in this way there would be an outcry. This decision must be overturned immediately.”
