Successful prosecution shows slavery will not be tolerated - O'Dowd
Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has welcomed the successful prosecution and jailing of a gang master who kept 15 people in appalling conditions in a house in Portadown and took their hard-earned wages.
Mr O’Dowd said:
“The jailing of this individual and prosecution of two other people in this case should send out a very strong message that the exploitation of people in this way will not be tolerated.
“The way these people were treated is disgraceful and degrading as they were kept as virtual slaves in a degrading conditions.
Concluding Mr O’Dowd said:
“The police and the Public Prosecution Service deserve credit for bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
“They have jailed the wrong doer and freed at least 15 people from degrading treatment and exploitation.”
