We need an intensive negotiation on legacy - McGuinness
Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has said it remains to be seen whether the British government are prepared to fulfil its responsibilities on the legacy of the past.
Speaking after a meeting with British Secretary of State James Brokenshire, Mr McGuinness said:
"In our last meeting three weeks ago I made it clear to James Brokenshire that we needed an intensive negotiation on the issue of legacy. Unfortunately that has not happened since then.
"At today's meeting I reinforced that message and challenged James Brokenshire whether he and his government were up for that negotiation.
"It remains to be seen if that will now happen.
"What we now need to see is a serious attempt to negotiate a way forward on these matters. Our negotiating team stands ready and we will need to see whether the British government is prepared to engage.
"The British government have a responsibility, almost one year on from the Fresh Start Agreement, to address the legacy of the past and we now need to see evidence of that."
