Misuse of ambulances and crews irresponsible and quite bizarre
Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan has welcomed news today that ambulances and ambulance crews in the North East are no longer being used to collect employee timesheets at 2am nightly. Deputy Morgan said the practice was "irresponsible and quite bizarre in this day and age."
Speaking this morning he said, "After discovering that ambulances and ambulance crews were being used to collect employee time sheets at 2am nightly in the HSE North East area I asked the Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney, if the ambulances and crews are covered by insurance to collect these sheets and if the terms and conditions of these employees are being breached by carrying out such functions.
"This morning I received a written response to my question, which told me that the practice has now ceased. I welcome this response but have to question why this practice ever existed. Surely with today‚s communications technology these timesheets could have been sent electronically via e-mail or by fax. Using these vital resources to collect them was irresponsible and quite bizarre in this day and age.
"I would be interested to find out if this practice occurs in other HSE areas. If it does then it should be ceased immediately."ENDS
