Government must save last remaining Frongoch POW Hut - Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile

19 October, 2016 - by Niall Ó Donnghaile

Sinn Féin Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile has called on the government to urgently act to preserve the last remaining POW Hut from the Frongoch site.

Speaking today Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said;

"Volunteers from across the nation who took part in the 1916 Rising were held as Prisoners of War on the Frongoch site in Wales.

“This camp became a place where political craft and revolutionary thinking flourished. It is where the IRA honed their strategies and plans for the years of the Tan War that would follow.

“Only one Hut from this site of monumental historic significance remains and not least in this centenary year the government should act with urgency to retain this unique and precious historic artefact.

“I will continue to work with the minister, who I have written to today, as well as my Seanad colleagues from all parties to ensure this site is preserved for future generations."
