School Transport Review Findings to be issued within two weeks – Nolan
Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Education and Skills Carol Nolan TD has welcomed the confirmation by the Minister of State for Training and Skills John Halligan in the Dáil this afternoon, that the findings of the Review on School Transport would be made available within the next two weeks.
Teachta Nolan raised the issue with the Minister this morning on the Order of Business.
Speaking after the exchange, Teachta Nolan said:
“I welcome the confirmation from the Minister of State that the findings of the Review on School Transport will be made available within two weeks and that parties will have an opportunity to respond.
“I am disappointed that this Review was not completed in advance of Budget 2017 as was committed to by the Programme for Government.
“I am also hugely disappointed that no additional funding was allocated to the service in the Budget.
“Children all across this state have been left without bus seats and every representative from every party will have encountered the annual debacle that arises every year.
“I hope that the review will be positive and will genuinely seek to address the issues with the school transport scheme and I look forward to examining its findings.
“I strongly hope that a system can be put in place that delivers for our children and their communities and avoids a similar situation next autumn.”
