Sinn Féin - Transforming the face of local government
Sinn Féin today nominated its local government election team for the forthcoming elections to Belfast City Council. Speaking from the City Hall where he was joined by party President Gerry Adams and all of the other Belfast candidates, former Belfast Mayor Alex Maskey said:
"Sinn Féin have transformed the face of local government here in Belfast and indeed across the Six Counties since we first entered the council chambers two decades ago. But much more needs to be done. We have a radical, all-Ireland vision for the future of local government and for the services which it delivers to the people.
"Our Belfast team this time around reflects a good balance of youth and experience with a number of candidates going forward for the first time. The response on the doorsteps so far has been positive and we are looking forward to the next number of weeks.
"We are currently the largest party on the Council here in Belfast with 13 members and we are seeking to build upon the gains made in recent years in this election. However we do not take the people for granted and we will be out on the streets and on the doorsteps talking to as many electors as possible in the run up to May 5th." ENDS
