Caithfidh an Rialtas cás d'óspidéal nua do Ghaillimh a scrúdú láithreach - Ó Clochartaigh

27 October, 2016

Tá iarrtha ag an Seanadóir Trevor Ó Clochartaigh ar an Aire Sláinte scrúdú a thionscnamh ar an gá atá ann le h-ospidéal nua do Ghaillimh.

Ag labhairt dó sa Seanad inniu deir Seanadóir Ó Clochartaigh:

'Tá mo theanga beag caite agam ag ardú géarchéim ospidéil na Gaillimhe i dTithe an Oireachtais ach is in olcas seachas i bhfeabhas atá cúrsaí ag dul faoi cheannas an Taoisigh seo.

'Tháinig James Reilly, Leo Varadkar agus an Taoiseach féin chuig Ospidéal na hOllscoile Gaillimh agus ghlac siad leis go bhfuil géarchéim damanta ann ach is beag atá déanta faoi.

'Tá sé ráite ag dochtúirí sinsearacha i ngrúpa ospidéil SAOLTA go bhfuil géarghá ann le h-ospidéal nua glan i nGaillimh, b'fhéidir ar shuíomh Ospidéal Pháirc Mheirlinne.

'Cinnte is gá ionaid sláinte príomhúil a bheith i ngach ceantar agus foireann iomlán a bheith ar fáil iontu. Cinnte is gá banaltraí, dochtúirí agus foireann cúltaca a chur ar fáil sna h-ospidéil leis na scuainí dochreidte a laghdú. Agus cinnte is gá féachaint i ndáiríre ar an cás atá ann d'óspidéal nua i nGaillimh.

'Tá iarrtha agam ar an Aire Sláinte gan a bheith ag déanamh beag is fiú don cheist seo agus scrúdú a thionscnú láithreach ar a an gceist fíor-thábhachtach seo'.

CRÍOCH

Government has to immediately examine the need for a new Hospital for Galway

Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh has asked the Minister for Health to commission a new report on the need for a new hospital in Galway.

Speaking today in the Seanad the Senator:

“I am have been constantly raising the question of the crisis in Galway Hospital here in the Oireachtas but under this Taoiseach it is getting worse rather than improving.

“James Reilly, Leo Varadkar and the Taoiseach himself came to University Hospital Galway and accepted that there is a deep crisis there yet nothing has been done.

“Senior doctors in the SAOLTA hospital group has said that there is an urgent need for a brand new hospital in Galway, maybe on the site of the Merlin Park campus.

“There needs to be a fully staffed primary health centre in every area. There also needs to be doctors, nurses and support staff in these facilities to help reduce the massive waiting lists. And the need for a new hospital in Galway certainly should be examined.

“I have asked the Minister for Health not to underestimate this problem and to commission an examination.”
