O’Farrell Family deserve Justice – Adams

4 November, 2016 - by Gerry Adams TD

The family of 23-year-old Shane O’Farrell who was killed in 2011 by a hit and run driver outside Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, have met with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Justice Minster Frances Fitzgerald in Government Buildings this morning.

Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD said:

“I spoke with Shane O’Farrell’s mother and sister following their meeting with An Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice this morning, which they feel was positive.

“I welcome the fact that An Taoiseach has not ruled out the establishment of a public inquiry into Shane's death and the prosecution of the man responsible, which is what the family have requested.

“The Justice Minister indicated to the O’Farrells that the GSOC report into Garda failings in this case is nearing completion and I hope that this is expedited.

“The family have made 59 complaints to GSOC regarding the death of Shane and there are serious questions which must be answered by the Gardaí and the DPP.”
