Remain vote must be recognised and respected - O'Dowd
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said the Remain vote of the majority of people in the north must be recognised and respected.
Mr O'Dowd said;
"Despite what James Brokenshire claimed in Dublin today, it is clear the British government hasn't got the first clue about what it is doing in terms of Brexit.
"The British Secretary of State has also said there can be no return to the borders of the past and that he does not want to jeopardise the progress made in the North in recent years.
"The best way to do that is to listen to the will of the people here who want to remain in the EU.
"The Irish government too have a key role to play to ensure that the North is afforded a designated special status within the EU.
"The simple fact is that the majority of people in the North voted to remain in the EU and that vote must be recognised and respected."
