Lansdowne Road is a lame duck agreement - David Cullinane TD
David Cullinane TD, Sinn Fein spokesperson for workers’ rights, said today that serious public sector pay issues need to be addressed and a roadmap to a new agreement
Deputy Cullinane said:
“The call today by SIPTU for new pay talks by 1 February 2017, along with the move by the INMO to ballot its members for industrial action, has all but given a final blow to the timescale of the Lansdowne Road Agreement.
"There is no way that the government can pretend any longer that the present agreement is going to hold until September 2018.
"Sinn Féin has consistently called for the issues of equal pay for equal work and the fair and timely unwinding of FEMPI to be addressed in tandem to the present agreement.
"We made provisions for some of these measures in our alternative budget.
"Minister Donohoe continues to bury his head in the sand on this issue.
"Soon he will be the only person left in the State who believes that Lansdowne Road is “the only game in town”.
"It’s time to get real. It’s time to get talking."
