Ó Muilleoir calls for continued cooperation with the EU

16 November, 2016 - by Máirtín Ó Muilleoir

Finance Minister Máirtín Ó Muilleoir is in Brussels today to make the case for continued cooperation with the European Union in the time ahead.

The Minister will have a series of engagements including meetings with the REGIO Head of Cabinet and the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee for Regional Development.

Speaking from the European Council headquarters in the city, the Minister said:

“The EU has been a stalwart in the peace process and support from Europe, including €13billion European funding since 1994, has had a positive and transformative impact on all sections of our community. I am in Brussels making the case for continued support and engagement between the north, our partners in the south, and the EU in the short, medium and long term.

“While much uncertainty has been caused by the referendum, we are still very much part of Europe and I want to maximise cooperation, strengthen links and continue positive collaboration with the most senior levels of the Commission to maintain the momentum of the excellent work undertaken through the last decades.

“Executive Ministers have fought to ensure that not a penny of European funding is lost. I have argued our case at government, regional and EU level to make sure our unique status European funds continue to flow to groups on the ground who are depending on it.”
