Minister has washed his hands of Bord na Móna Dispute – Nolan
Sinn Féin TD for Offaly and North Tipperary, Carol Nolan TD, has criticised the Minister for his reluctance to take action to protect workers in Bord na Móna. Teachta Nolan’s comments come after a response was received to a parliamentary question by the TD from the Minister of Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten.
Teachta Nolan said:
“There has been a 12% pay cut imposed on up to 100 workers in Bord na Móna and there are current plans in place to outsource the haulage for the company.
“I am very disappointed in the Minister Denis Naughten’s response, which states that he has no role in the industrial relation of the company.
“The Minister cannot take a laissez faire approach to this matter – dozens of workers are affected and Bord Na Móna is one of the largest employers in the area.
“As a semi-state company, I believe the Minister does have a duty to ensure that jobs are protected and workers are treated fairly.
“There is huge concern in relation to the ongoing privatisation agenda in many state owned companies and the Government must intervene to put a stop to this immediately to protect the interests of local families and the state in general.”
