All sections of society should be involved in Colombian peace process - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said it is important all sections of society are involved in the historic Colombian peace process.
Speaking at a major policing conference in Colombia attended by an international panel of speakers, Ms Anderson said;
"It is important that Colombia seizes this historic chance of peace.
"The ceasefire agreement between the FARC and the Colombian Government, which was been extended until 31 December is positive step, as was the intensification of efforts to reach a solution. I hope the new arrangement will be supported by the Colombian people.
"If the negotiated arrangement is to be supported, the people must not be left behind. They must be consulted and engaged with throughout the process.
"It is vital that all conflict actors make a positive contribution to reconciliation and healing that assists all families, and to build a society that cherishes and harnesses all to ensure that conflict will never return.
"Sinn Féin continues to support the Colombian people in building and sustaining peace by sharing our experiences of the Irish peace process."
