Minister must reveal details of action plan to address issues affecting children with disabilities in Laois and Offaly – Nolan
Referring to a Parliamentary Response received from Minister of State with responsibility for Disabilities Finian McGrath, Sinn Féin TD for Offaly and North Tipperary Carol Nolan has said that the Minister must reveal the details of the action plan to resolve outstanding issues in relation to services for children with autism spectrum disorder in counties Laois and Offaly.
Teachta Carol Nolan said:
“I welcome the fact that local HSE management and the Minister met recently with representatives of the Laois and Offaly Families for Autism group to discuss matters of concern in respect of local services.
“I wish to commend the members of the LOFFA group for their tireless campaigning on this issue.
“The services for children with disabilities in the region are completely inadequate at present and currently four of the clinical psychologist posts approved for the area are vacant.
“I have raised this issue with the Minister on a number of occasions in the Dáil and it is clear that urgent action is needed to ensure that these critical supports are put in place as soon as possible.
“It is my understanding that a follow up meeting between the HSE and members of LOFFA took place in November in order to discuss in detail the current issues.
“The Minister assures me that there will be an action plan put in place to address all outstanding issues.
“I have requested details of the plan from the Minister and I will continue to raise these matters with him in order to ensure that it is implemented.”
