British government must honour legacy commitments - McCann
Sinn Féin MLA Jennifer McCann has said commitments made by the British government in the Fresh Start Agreement must be upheld.
The Party’s spokesperson on legacy issues said:
“It is now one year since the Fresh Start Agreement and yet the issue of legacy remains unaddressed.
“It is the British government who are causing the delay, they must honour and implement the commitments made in the Stormont House Agreement.
"The British Secretary of State James Brokenshire should uphold his obligations by addressing the requirements of the Lord Chief Justice's five-year plan to clear the backlog in legacy inquests.
“All relatives and victims are entitled to maximum disclosure of truth in relation to the death of their loved ones.
“Their search for truth should not be blocked by a 'national security' veto on disclosure.
“The continued failure and refusal to deal with the legacy of the conflict only adds to the hurt and pain suffered by many in our society.”
