No new Gardaí for Wicklow - John Brady TD
Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow/East Carlow John Brady has said that despite highlighting inadequate Garda numbers in Wicklow with Minister Fitzgerald, no new Gardaí have been allocated to Wicklow.
Teachta Brady said:
“It is beyond disappointing that out of the 145 new Gardaí, who passed out of Templemore last month, not one will be stationed in Wicklow.
“I have raised the issue of inadequate Garda numbers across County Wicklow with the Minister for Justice and Equality. We have towns such as Arklow and Wicklow town with no community Gardaí in place whatsoever.
“We know that those living in villages such as Kilcoole are suffering as a direct result of this lack of Garda presence in the area.
“Back in June, I asked Minister Fitzgerald to redirect new Garda numbers to Wicklow to ensure that adequate Garda levels are met. This has not happened and therefore, the lack of Garda presence and visibility across the County continues.
“I will be contacting the Minister further on this matter. The need for proper Garda numbers and resources is absolutely paramount for the safety of all citizens in the County. I hope that my constituency colleagues will join me in calling on Minister Fitzgerald to address this most serious situation.”
