Agriculture Minister should raise submarine concerns with British navy - McMullan
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said the Agriculture Minister has a responsibility to raise the concerns of the local fishing fleet about submarine activity with the British navy.
"The incident involving Ardglass trawler, Karen, which was snagged by a British submarine, has caused a great deal of anxiety among the local fishing fleet.
"I recently asked the Agriculture Minister what her plans are to address the fears of the fishing fleet following the publication of a report into the incident by the Marine Accident Branch.
"The minister has now confirmed that a team of officers from the British navy will visit the North for discussions with the local fishing fleet and that DAERA officials will also be present.
"There is a responsibility on the minister and the department to raise the fears and concerns of the local fishing fleet directly with the British navy to ensure such an incident is never repeated."
