British government must respect remain vote of north of Ireland - O'Dowd
Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said the British Supreme Court hearing over Brexit is a significant legal, political and constitutional challenge to the British government.
Mr O'Dowd said;
"The beginning of the hearing in the British Supreme Court on the triggering of Article 50 today marks a significant legal, political and constitutional challenge to the British government.
"Regardless of the outcome, respect for democracy is at the core of this issue and the British government must recognise and respect the fact that the majority of people in the North of Ireland voted to remain in the EU.
"Sinn Féin representatives will attend the hearing on Wednesday when the north of Ireland specific elements of the case will be heard.
"It is crucial that the vote of the people of the north is respected and that we work to secure designated special status for the north of Ireland within the EU."
